Comparing Doctors' Offices to Get the Best Care

To make our health care system in Massachusetts truly patient-centered, we must continue to advance efforts to capture and report how patients experience their care. 

On this website, there are two different ways to compare doctors’ offices:

• A survey of over 34,000 patients across Massachusetts that collected details about the care they receive at their own doctors’ offices.
• Reports that measure how well the doctors’ offices achieve nationally recognized standards for high-quality primary care.

This website helps patients compare primary care doctors’ offices based on a statewide survey of patient experience of primary care and a nationally accepted method of measuring quality:

• The Massachusetts statewide Patient Experience Survey Report shares the results from a survey sent to over 300,000 primary care patients. The survey asked patients to report about their experiences with a specific primary care provider and with that doctor’s office.
  
  
• The Clinical Quality Report shares the performance results of Massachusetts primary care practices based on national measures of quality, which are called the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®). These measures are based on the preventive care services and chronic disease care that patients receive.
